Obesity and Anaesthesia

Obesity that adversely affects many organ systems (e.g., cardiovascular and respiratory systems) increases the mortality and morbidity. Obese patients can encounter with the considerable difficulties in mask ventilation and intubation during anaesthesia. Also, the volume of the distribution of body and the elimination of the drugs used get changed. All these influence anaesthesiologists’ approaches towards obese patients. In this review, obesity and the anaesthetic approach towards obese patients were evaluated.

Birçok organ sistemini (örn., kardiyovasküler ve solunum sistemleri) olumsuz etkileyen obezite mortalite ve morbiditeyi artırmaktadır. Obez hastalar, anestezi sırasında maske ile ventilasyonda ve entübasyonda ciddi zorluklarla karşılaşılabilirler. Ayrıca kullanılan ilaçların vücut dağılım hacmi ve eliminasyonu değişmektedir. Tüm bunlar anestezistlerin obez hastaya yönelik yaklaşımlarını etkilemektedir. Bu derlemede, obezite ve obez hastalara yönelik anestezik yaklaşım değerlendirilmiştir.
