Correlation of sleep disorders with suicidal ideation in patients with major depressive disorder

METHODS: The study included 60 patients attending Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital psychiatry clinic with diagnosis of major depressive disorder according to DSM-V diagnostic criteria. The cases completed a sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Suicidal Ideation Scale (SIS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI
RESULTS: Correlation analysis identified positive significant correlations between number of disease attacks with PSQI and SIS points. There were positive significant correlations between SIS total points and PSQI-1, PSQI-5, PSQI-6, PSQI-T and BDI points. Regression analysis identified that PSQI-5 and PSQI-T points were each a predictor for SIS values.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The data we obtained in this study confirm that sleep disorders may have an effect on suicidal thoughts among MDD cases.
Major depresif bozukluğu olan hastalarda uyku bozukluklarının intihar düşüncesi ile ilişkisi

YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Çalışmaya Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu Şehir Hastanesini Psikiyatri polikliniğine başvuran ve DSM-V tanı ölçütlerine göre Major Depresif Bozukluk tanısı konan 60 hasta alınmıştır. Olgulara Sosyodemografik Veri Formu, Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ), İntihar Düşüncesi Ölçeği (İDÖ), Pittsburgh Uyku Kalitesi İndeksi (PUKİ) uygulanmıştır.
BULGULAR: Korelasyon analizinde HAS ile PUKİ ve İDÖ puanları arasında pozitif yönlü anlamlı korelasyon saptandı. İDÖ toplam puanı ile PUKİ-1, PUKİ-5, PUKİ-6, PUKİ-T ve BDÖ puanları arasında pozitif yönlü anlamlı korelasyonlar saptandı. Regresyon analizinde PUKİ-5 ve PUKİ-T değerlerinin İDÖ değerinin birer yordayıcısı olduğu saptanmıştır.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Çalışmamızda elde ettiğimiz veriler MDB olgularında uyku bozukluğunun intihar düşünceleri üzerine etkisinin olabileceğini doğrulamaktadır.
