Missing Intrauterine Device with Sigmoid Colon Perforation: Presentation of a Neglected Case

They are quite effective and inexpensive. However, uterine perforations might be encountered during insertion. Here, we report a 38-year-old woman with uterine and sigmoid perforation associated with an intrauterine device. Uterine and colon perforation had not been diagnosed following 6 years of insertion despite a number of pelvic examinations and endometrial sampling procedure. Perforation of uterus should be sought if a previously inserted intrauterine device cannot be located in the uterine cavity. Minimally, an abdominopelvic X-radiograph should not be omitted in such an incident.

Ve Doğum A.d.İntrauterin araçlar dünyada gelişmemiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde sık kullanılan kontraseptif yöntemlerden birisidir. İntrauterin araçlar oldukça etkin ve ucuz yöntemlerdir. Ancak, takılması sırasında uterin perforasyonlar olabilmektedir. Biz kliniğimizde, intrauterin araca bağlı uterus ve sigmoid kolon perforasyonu olan 38 yaşındaki bir vakayı sunduk. Altı yıllık intrauterin araç öyküsü olan hastanın, uterin ve kolon perforasyonu, jinekolojik muayene ve probe küretaj geçirmesine rağmen tanınamamıştı. İntrauterin araç taktırma öyküsü olan ve uterus kavitesinin boş olduğu hastalarda uterus perforasyonu akılda tutulmalıdır. Bu durumlarda en azından abdomino-pelvik X-ray grafi çekilmesi ihmal edilmemelidir.
