Phakic refractive lens implantation in highly myopic and hyperopic eyes: two- years follow-up

PURPOSE: To evaluate the phakic refractive lens implantation surgical outcomes in patients who are not eligible for refractive corneal surgery.
METHODS: In this study we evaluated the results in 115 eyes of 64 cases treated with phakic refractive lens (PRL) implantation with a follow up period of at least 2 years. Preoperative and post operative visual acuity, intraoperative and postoperative complications were recorded.
RESULTS: PRLs were implanted in 115 eyes of 64 patients. Mean patient age was 33 years ranged between 26-45 years. PRLs were implanted in 32 hyperopic and 83 myopic eyes. Mean follow up was 24 months. According to the last post operative examinations, the uncorrected viasual acuity was 0.6±0.10 in myopic eyes while 0.4±0.18 in hyperopic eyes. The best corrected visual acuity was 0.7±0.14 in myopic eyes while 0.6±0.1 in hyperopic eyes. During the follow-up period 1 eyes (0.8%) developed endophthalmitis, 2 eyes (1.6%) developed decentralization, 1 eyes (0.8%) developed steroid-induced intraocular hypertansion, 1 eyes (0.8%) developed focal cataract.
Results: In this study, during the two-years follow-up, refractive outcomes are satisfactory. But in our opinion long term follow-up periods are needed for evaluating the complications accurately. PURPOSE: To evaluate the phakic refractive lens implantation outcomes in patients who are not eligible for refractive corneal surgery.
Yüksek miyop ve hipermetrop gözlerde fakik refraktif lens uygulaması: 2 yıllık takip

AMAÇ: Refraktif kornea cerrahisine uygun olmayan ve fakik arka kamara lens (PRL) implantasyonu yapılan olgularımızda sonuçların değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
GEREÇ-YÖNTEM: Fakik arka kamara lens (PRL) implantasyonu yapılan ve en az 2 yıl boyunca takip edilen 64 olgunun 115 gözü retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Preoperatif ve post operatif görme keskinliği, intraoperatif ve post operatif komplikasyonlar değerlendirildi.
BULGULAR: 64 olgunun 115 gözüne PRL implantasyonu yapıldı. Ortalama yaş 33 olup yaş aralığı 26 ile 45 yaş arasında değişmekteydi. PRL 32 hipermetrop, 83 miyop göze implante edildi. Ortalama takip süresi 24 ay idi. Postoperatif dönemde olguların son muayeneleri dikkate alınarak yapılan değerlendirmede düzeltilmemiş görme keskinliği miyopik grupta 0.6±0.10 iken hipermetropik grupta 0.4±0.18 olarak bulundu. En iyi düzeltilmiş görme keskinliği miyopik grupta 0.7±0.14 iken hipermetropik grupta 0.6±0.11idi. Takiplerde 1 gözde (%0.8) endoftalmi, 2 gözde (%1.7) desantralizasyon, 1 gözde (%0.8) steroide bağlı göz içi basıncında yükselme, 1 gözde (%0.8) fokal katarakt saptandı.
SONUÇ: Olguların en az 2 yıl boyunca takip edildiği bu serimizde refraktif sonuçlar memnuniyet vericidir. Ancak komplikasyonların tam olarak değerlendirilebilmesi için daha uzun takip süreleri gerektiğini düşünmekteyiz.
