The Results of External Dacryocystorhinostomy Operations Performed with Single Flap and Double Flaps

PURPOSE: To compare the results of external dacryocystorhinostomy operations performed with single flap and double flaps.
MATERİAL-METHOD: Retrospective data of 111 eyes of 108 patients undergoing external dacryocystorhinostomy between January 2005-December 2006 in our clinic is evaluated. Single flap dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on 54 eyes (39 female and 15 male patients) and double flap external dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on a total of 57 eyes (43 female, 13 male patient). Seven patients were operated under general anesthesia and101 patients were operated with local anesthesia.
RESULTS: Silicone tube implantation was performed on 31 of 57 eyes in double flap group and on 30 of 54 patients in single flap group. Mean follow up period was 18.8 months (5-27) in double flap group and 13 months (4-27) in single flap group. The success rate was 96,49% in double flap group and 96,29% in single flap group. There was no statistically significant difference between the surgical success rates of the groups (the fisher exact chi-square test, p>0,05).
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that external dacryocystorhinostomy with double flap anastomosis has no difference from external dacryocystorhinostomy with single flap for the surgical success rates.

AMAÇ: Eksternal dakriosistorinostomi cerrahisinde tek flep ve çift flep sonuçlarını karşılaştırmak
GEREÇ-YÖNTEM: Ocak 2005- Aralık 2006 tarihleri arasında kliniğimizde eksternal dakriosistorinostomi uygulanan 108 hastanın 111 gözü retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. 39 kadın, 15 erkek hastanın 54 gözüne tek flep eksternal dakriosistorinostomi, 43 kadın,13 erkek hastanın toplam 57 gözüne çift flep eksternal dakriosistorinostomi ameliyatı yapıldı. Ameliyat 7 hastada genel anestezi altında, 101 hastada lokal anestezi altında uygulandı.
BULGULAR: Çift flep uygulanan 57 gözün 31’ine silikon tüp entübasyonu yapılırken, tek flep uygulanan 54 hastanın 30 una silikon tüp entübasyonu yapıldı. Çift flep uygulanan grubun ortalama takip süresi 18,8 ay (5-27 ay) iken, tek flep uygulanan grubunki 13 ay ( 4-27 ay) idi. Çift flep uygulanan grupta % 96,49, tek flep uygulanan grupta % 96,29 başarı elde edildi. Gruplar arasında cerrahi başarı oranında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark izlenmedi (Fisher kesin ki-kare testi, p>0,05).
SONUÇ: Çalışmamız eksternal dakriosistorinostomi cerrahisinde cerrahi başarı açısından çift flep anastomozunun tek flep dakriosistorinostomiden farkı olmadığını göstermektedir.
