The Effect of Anterior Chamber Depth on Intraocular Pressure After Uneventful Phacoemulsification Surgery in Nonglaucomatous Eyes with Cataract

Material and Method: The medical records of fifty-five patients (30 male and 25 female) were reviewed retrospectively. The patients who underwent uneventful phacoemulsification and IOL implantation were divided into two groups according to preoperative anterior chamber depth (ACD): 30 eyes in the group 1(ACD, 3.27≤ mm) and 25 eyes in the group 2 (ACD, 3.27> mm). Intraocular pressure was measured using noncontact tonometer preoperatively and postoperatively (1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 month).
Results: Mean IOP decreased 23,6% in group 1 and 13.7% in group 2 at 3 months after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. There was statistically significant difference between the groups (p= 0.025).
Discussion: The mean intraocular pressure decreases in eyes with shallow anterior chamber more than normal eyes after uncomplicated phacoemulsification and IOL implantation.
Glokomsuz Kataraktlı Gözlerde Ön Kamara Derinliğinin Komplikasyonsuz Fakoemülsifikasyon Cerrahisi Sonrası Göziçi Basıncına Etkisi

Gereç ve Yöntem: Ellibeş hastanın (30 erkek ve 25 kadın) tıbbi kayıtları geriye gönük olarak gözden geçirildi. Komplikasyonsuz fakoemülsifikasyon ve GİL implantasyonu yapılmış hastalar cerrahi öncesi ön kamara derinliklerine (ÖKD) göre 2 gruba ayrıldılar: Grup 1, 30 göz (ÖKD, 3.27≤ mm) ve grup 2, 25 göz (ÖKD, 3.27> mm). GİB, nonkontakt tonometri ile cerrahi öncesinde ve cerrahi sonrasında ölçüldü (1. gün, 1. hafta, 1. ay ve 3. ay).
Bulgular: Fakoemülsifikasyon ve göziçi lens (GİL) implantasyonu sonrası 3. ayda, ortalama GİB grup 1’de %23.6, grup 2’de %13.7 düştü. Gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark vardı (p=0.025)
Sonuç: Komplikasyon gelişmeyen fakoemülsifikasyon ve GİL implantasyonu sonrası ortalama GİB, sığ ÖKD’li gözlerde normal gözlerden daha fazla azalır.
