Evaluation of retinal changes using optical coherence tomography in a pediatric case of Susac syndrome

The cause is unknown, although it generally affects young women. The syndrome may be difficult to diagnosis, and then only through detailed investigation of findings. These are not always seen concomitantly, but may appear at different times. This report describes a pediatric case diagnosed with Susac syndrome when retinal lesions were identified with the help of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the inactive period. The purpose of this case report is to emphasize the importance of OCT in clarifying undefined retinal changes in Susac syndrome.

Sebebi bilinmeyen bu sendrom genellikle genç kadınları etkilemektedir. Tanısı zorluk arz edebilen Susac sendromuna ait bulgular ancak detaylı inceleme ile ortaya konulabilmektedir. Çünkü Susac sendromunda görülen bulgular her zaman eş zamanlı görülmeyip farklı zamanlarda ortaya çıkabilmektedir. Bu yazıda inaktif döneminde optik kohorens tomografi (OKT) yardımıyla retinal lezyonların ortaya çıkarılması ile Susac sendromu tanısı konulan pediatrik bir olgu sunulmaktadır. Bu olgu sunumunda OKT’nin Susac sendromundaki müphem retinal değişikliklerin ortaya çıkarılmasındaki önemini vurgulamayı amaçladık.
