Acute transverse myelitis is an uncommon disease characterized by abrupt onset of progressive weakness and sensory disturbance in the lower extremities accompanied by bladder and bowel disfunction. It’s course is variable; 50 % of patients make a full recovery, 10 % have no recovery, and 40% recover incompletely. Steroids are used as a treatment model however, it’s effect on the course or prognosis of acute transverse myelitis is controversial.
In this study, four children with acute transverse myelitis are presented. Our aim is to discuss the role of high dose methylprednisolone therapy in children with acute transverse myelitis.
